Lesson #40: Aloha
This is BLT Eigo, brought to you by BLTnetwork.com. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
Aloha everyone! Yes, you heard right, I said “aloha,” which is an important greeting in Hawaii. Why am I talking about Hawaii this episode? Well, I finally got that vacation I wanted and… guess where I went? That’s right, to Hawaii!
I had a blast swimming, snorkeling, surfing and just sitting around watching the sun set from my lanai, or balcony.
I would like to teach you a few Hawaiian words:
For hello or goodbye say aloha….
For thank you say mahalo…
Try the ancient Hawaiian dance called hula…
Finally, join a Hawaiian feast called a luau…
Good job!
Mahalo or thanks for joining BLT Eigo right here on BLTnetwork.com. See you next time. Aloha!

Lesson #39: Excuse me?
This is BLT Eigo, brought to you by BLTnetwork.com. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
Sometimes it’s hard to understand a conversation…like when you’re at a noisy party. It happens to all of us. But the key to good communication is to “check information.” Do this by asking the speaker to repeat their words.
Here are a few easy phrases:
I’m sorry?
Excuse me?
Pardon me?
Could you repeat that, please?
You can also repeat the information back to the speaker like this:
Did you say fifteen or fifty?
OK, repeat after me:
I’m sorry?
Excuse me?
Pardon me?
Could you repeat that, please?
Did you say BLT Eigo or ham and eigo?
Good job!
Thanks for joining BLT Eigo right here on BLTnetwork.com. See you next time. Bye!

Lesson #38: Sea Shells
This is BLT Eigo, brought to you by BLTnetwork.com. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
This hot muggy weather is making my brain work so slowly… You too? Then it’s time for some brain exercises with a good tongue twister.
This week’s workout has a summer ocean theme…. Wouldn’t it be nice to go to the beach for summer vacation? Sigh.
This tongue twister is short but has given me many twisted tongues over the years.
Listen carefully:
She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
OK now let’s try it three times fast. Ready?
She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
Good job!
Do you think my boss got that hint about summer vacation….
Anyway, thanks for joining BLT Eigo right here on BLTnetwork.com. See you next time. Bye!

Lesson #37: Rainy Season
This is BLT Eigo, brought to you by BLTnetwork.com. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
It’s that time of year when rainy days outnumber sunny ones… this rainy or wet season is called tsuyu (雨期) in Japanese.
Here are a few interesting American idioms you can practice while staying indoors:
When it’s raining very hard, you can say, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”
The post office delivers mail “rain or shine,” meaning they deliver mail in all weather conditions.
“Every cloud has a silver lining,” means that something good will come out of any problem.
OK, now repeat after me:
It’s raining cats and dogs.
The post office delivers, rain or shine.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
Good job!
Just like the post office, we deliver quality English episodes “rain or shine.” Thanks for joining BLT Eigo right here on BLTnetwork.com. See you next time. Bye!

Lesson #36: No Idea
BLTnetwork.com proudly presents BLT Eigo. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
Ever have to answer a question when you don’t know the answer? Next time it happens, instead of just saying, “uhhhh,” here are a few phrases you might try:
The easiest way to answer is, “I don’t know.”
If you want to look like you’re thinking about it, say, “I’m not sure….”
If you are really in the dark about something, shake your head and say, “I have absolutely no idea!”
OK, now repeat after me:
I don’t know.
I’m not sure….
I have absolutely no idea!
Good Job!
What’s the next BLT Eigo episode about? I have absolutely no idea!

Lesson #35: Peter’s Peppers
BLTnetwork.com proudly presents BLT Eigo. I’m your host and English Coach, David Hylton.
Hey folks, it’s that time again for another good tongue twister. This week’s piece is called Peter Piper. Whew! This one is pretty hard so listen carefully:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
A peck is a quarter of a bushel basket, or about 2 gallons (8.81 liters).
OK, now let’s try it together, here we go:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers ,
where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
Good Job!
Speaking of picking peppers…I’ve got to pick up some lunch. Thanks for joining BLT Eigo right here on BLTnetwork.com. See you next time. Bye!

We get sick every winter.
Let’s get in shape.
This summer, she will get a two-week vacation.

I love taking pictures!
I like camping.
I enjoy hiking.
I’m interested in fishing.
I do a little skiing.
I can play basketball.
I can’t bowl.
I’m not interested in shopping.
I don’t like dancing.
I hate singing.
Good job!
It’s time for me to do something I really don’t like…. cleaning the office. Ugh!

Lesson #32 Stress-free Living
BLTnetwork.com presents BLT Eigo. I’m your English Coach, David Hylton.
Last week, I was sitting at my computer stressing about the next episode when realized it was Golden Week! In Japan, nobody works during Golden Week! So, I loaded up the kids and headed out to the Japan Sea. Everybody had a blast I stopped stressing.
So, this week’s topic is:
How can we live a stress-free life?
Here are some great techniques:
Get plenty of sleep.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and reduce red meat.
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
Talk to or go out with your friends.
Try aromatherapy with Lavender essential oil.
Get a massage.
Good job!
I’m already feeling better.
Well I’m off to dig in my vegetable garden.

Lesson #31: What Kinds of Music Do You Like?
Welcome to BLT Eigo, I’m your host David Hylton.
Hanami, or cherry-blossom-viewing, is pretty much over now, but there are still lots of things to do and people to meet over “Golden Week.”
This week’s phrase is sure to help you get to know someone better.
The phrase is: “What kinds of … do you like? (どのような。。。が好きですか。)
I think it’s more useful than the phrase, “What’s your favorite…?”
Here are a few samples:
What kinds of sports do you like?
What kinds of food do you like?
What kinds of music do you like?
Be sure to choose a topic that the other person wants to talk about.
So go ahead and ask me, “What kinds of music do you like?”
I like rock and pops… but I LOVE David’s Dancepad! Yeah!
See you after “Golden Week” … I’m off on a family trip.
Good job!
